One Ring to rule them all

Some owners of rings made by the late Nelson silversmith Jens Hansen may unknowingly have their hands on a small goldmine.

One of the seven remaining prototypes of the One Ring designed by the jeweller for the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy is up for auction by London-based Sotheby's.

It has an asking price of more than $11,000, but Mr Hansen's son Thorkild said Sotheby's estimated the value to be up to $20,000.

Thorkild Hansen said the ring - which is part of the Hollywood: Past and Present auction organised by Sotheby's associate company Entertainment Rarities - was one of only seven of the original 15 sterling-silver prototypes remaining.
