One person dies following two-vehicle accident in Darfield, Selwyn District

One person has died following a two-vehicle crash in the Selwyn District town of Darfield, while another person has died after a smash in Bunnythorpe, Manawatū.

A police spokesperson said emergency services responded to the Old West Coast Rd accident near Pitt Rd, Darfield, about 11am.

“One person has subsequently died at the scene and one person remains in hospital in a critical condition.”

The Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination and the road remains closed but was expected to reopen shortly.

Meanwhile, one person has died following a serious crash on Ashhurst Rd, near Bunnythorpe in the Manawatū region yesterday.

Emergency services were called to the scene after reports of a two-vehicle accident about 2.15pm.

Hato Hone St John sent five ambulances, one rapid response unit, one operations manager, and two helicopters.

Two people in critical condition were flown to Wellington Hospital and three in serious condition were taken to Palmerston North Hospital by ambulance, a Hato Hone St John spokesman said.

Police said the Serious Crash Unit has examined the scene and inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

“Police would like to hear from anyone who saw a dark-coloured Ford Ranger and a Toyota Yaris in the Bunnythorpe area from about 2pm yesterday.
