One person dies after serious crash south of Auckland

One person has died and another injured in a serious crash south of Auckland last night.

The collision between a car and a truck occurred on State Highway 2 at Mangatawhiri shortly before 10.30pm.

One person died at the scene, ambulance northern communications shift manager Ptrece Gosney-Payne said.

A second person sustained moderate injuries, but was not transported to hospital.

Police, fire and ambulance all attended the scene of the crash.

Diversions were in place at the junctions with Koheroa Rd and State Highway 1 overnight, but have now been removed, police said.
