One person dead in Otago crash

One person is dead and two seriously injured after a two-car crash on the Lindis Pass in Central Otago this afternoon.

The accident happened south of the summit, on Omarama-Lindis Pass Road about 12.30pm, St John ambulance spokeman Ian Henderson said.

Emergency services, including two ambulances and two rescue helicopters were at the scene.

State Highway 8 through the Lindis Pass has been closed.
