One person is dead and another is seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash in Tuhikaramea Rd near Hamilton.
A car and a light truck were involved in the collision at 2.30pm.
Police and emergency services attended the scene in the suburb of Temple View.
One person died at the scene, while another was transported to Waikato Hospital with serious injuries.
Cordons are in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
The Serious Crash Unit is at the scene.
"There are currently diversions at Tuhikaramea Rd/Kahikatea Drive, and Collins Rd/Tuhikaramea Rd," police said.
The death brings this year's road toll to 108, up from 94 at the same time last year.
Six of those people died on New Zealand roads over the Easter weekend, which was three times as many as the holiday period last year.
Before this accident the latest fatal crash was yesterday afternoon, when a woman died following a crash involving two vehicles on State Highway 1 near Wellsford, about 12.30pm.
Two other people were transported to hospital with serious injuries.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating this incident.
