One injured in microlight plane crash

One person has been injured in a microlight plane crash in Masterton.

Emergency services were called to the crash on the western side of the Hood Aerodrome about 2.30pm.

Central communications shift manager Mike Wanoa said fire fighters arrived to find the two-seater plane well involved in fire.

"The pilot had walked away from the crash with minor injuries."

A passerby spotted the crash and alerted emergency services, he said.

The fire had since been extinguished.

An ambulance spokesman said the pilot of the plane was checked by staff. He had minor injuries and did not require further treatment or transport, the spokesman said.

Police central communications shift inspector Mike Coleman said officers were investigating the crash.
