One hurt after car rolls near Hilton in rural South Canterbury this afternoon

One person has moderate to serious injuries after a car crash in rural South Canterbury this afternoon.

A Southern Ambulance Communications spokeswoman confirmed the person's injuries and said they had been taken by ambulance to Timaru Hospital.

She did not know the person's age or gender.

A police spokeswoman said crash occurred near the rural settlement of Hilton, about 30km north-west of Timaru, just before 3pm.

The driver of the car had struck a fence, causing the car to roll.

It was upside down when emergency services arrived, but she did not know if any one else was in the car.

The road, in the vicinity of Earl and Winchester-Hanging Rock roads, had been cleared.
