One dead, six injured in Hamilton police chase

A man is dead after crashing his car while fleeing police in Huntington, Hamilton.

A police northern communications spokesman said the driver of the car was being pursued by police when the crash occurred about 3.50pm.

The man died at the scene, police said.

The car collided with a van carrying six men at the corner of Gordonton and Puketaha Rds around 4pm.

All six passengers - aged between 22 and 33 - are in a stable condition at Waikato Hospital with moderate injuries.
