One person has died following a crash at a street race event in Greymouth.
The person was critically injured in the crash at Greymouth Motorcycle Street Races, and died on their way to hospital.
"We were transporting them to hospital in a critical condition when they sadly became deceased," a
St John Ambulance spokeswoman told the Herald.
Ambulance personnel were already on the ground as part of the event, she said.
A motorbike rider crashed on Herbert St in the West Coast town shortly before 11am, police said.
