One dead in forestry accident near Gisborne

One person has died in a forestry accident near Gisborne today.

Police said emergency services were called to a remote forestry area in Tauwhareparae just after 2.30pm.

"Despite the efforts of emergency services personnel, the man died at the scene.

"Police and WorkSafe are making inquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding the death,'' a police spokeswoman said.

The nature of the accident has not yet been revealed.

The Fire Service confirmed they too were at the scene, but could not comment further and referred inquiries to police.
