One dead in Blenheim crash, first holiday road toll victim

A person who died after a single-vehicle crash in Blenheim last night was a pedestrian, police have confirmed.

The crash occurred on John St, near the town's court house, around 8.40pm. Police said it appeared only one car was involved.

The Serious Crash Unit attended the scene and an investigation into the circumstances of the incident is underway.

Police have yet to release the person's name but the death took the Christmas holiday road toll to one.

The holiday road toll period began at 4pm on Christmas Eve and ends on January 3 at 6am.
