One dead following Southland crash

A person is dead following a road crash in Southland overnight.

Police found the person in a burnt out Subaru station wagon near Mossburn, 100km northwest of Invercargill, about 4am.

The vehicle had crashed into the north end of a bridge, police said.

The road was closed, and the serious crash unit was at the scene.

The occupant will have to be forensically identified.

Police want to hear from anybody who was in the area at the time or saw the white vehicle.
