One person is dead after a crash in Waikato.

The crash occurred between two cars on No. 1 Rd, Waitoa, which is about 20 minutes north of Matamata at, 1pm today.

A second person has been taken to Waikato Hospital.

A section of No.1 Rd is closed while the Serious Crash Unit investigates.

Diversions are also in place.
