One dead after serious crash near Amberley, north of Christchurch

One person has died in a serious crash on State Highway 1 in Amberley, Canterbury.

The crash, between a truck and car, happened at about 11.15am.

One person was been flown by helicopter to Christchurch Hospital with serious injuries.

At 2.25pm police advised a person had died as a result of the crash.

SH 1 is closed and diversions are in place at Leithfield and Grays Rds.

The serious crash unit is investigating.
