One dead after serious crash between truck and car closes SH1 in Waikato

One person has died after a serious crash involving a truck and a car on State Highway 1, north of Tokoroa in the Waikato.

The incident – between Tamatea Rd and West Rd - was reported to police at 4.15pm on Thursday.

The route, north of Tokoroa, is currently closed.

Another person also sustained moderate injuries as a result of the crash, a St John spokesperson said.

Police were also responding to reports of a crash between two trucks on Kakaramea Rd about 3km south of Whatawhata.

One driver was reported to be trapped.

One truck was in a paddock and the other across the road.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area, and a police spokesperson said there would be diversions in place.
