A person is dead after a crash between a car and a truck, which has led to the closure of a major Waikato highway this afternoon.
A police spokeswoman said they were alerted just before 3pm to the crash near the Airport Rd off-ramp on State Highway 1 at Tamahere,
10km southeast of Hamilton.
St John Ambulance tweeted that one person had died and a second person had minor injuries.
The person who was killed was travelling in the car involved in the collision, police said in a statement.
SH1 at Tamahere is closed in both direction following the crash, a police spokeswoman said, and would remain closed for some time.
