One critical after being rescued from apartment fire

A person is in a critical condition after being rescued from a fire at an Auckland apartment block.

Emergency services were called to Grassways Ave, in the suburb of Pakūranga, about 12.40pm.

A northern fire communications spokesman said they received multiple calls to the blaze – described as being at a three-level apartment block building.

One person was rescued from the building, he said.

Police inspector Jason Homan said the victim is in a critical condition and has been taken to Middlemore Hospital for treatment.

Members of the public are advised there are cordons in place around the scene.

“Please avoid the area while emergency services attend.”
