Offer on the table for junior doctors

A pay dispute between junior doctors and district health boards (DHBs) could soon be settled with today's tabling of a fresh offer following two days of talks.

Resident Doctors Association (RDA) president Curtis Walker told NZPA that though the DHBs had made several offers over the past few months, today's proposal was the first he felt could be taken back to his members.

Dr Walker said members would vote on the offer within the next three weeks, and no industrial action would be taken during that time.

The RDA was seeking a 1 per cent pay rise and while retaining and improving current conditions.

Dr Walker said events today had altered its stance, but he couldn't comment further.

Neither the DHBs or Dr Walker would give details about the offer.
