Offal mess closes State Highway 56 near Palmerston North

State Highway 56 was closed briefly yesterday after a truck-and-trailer unit carrying offal overturned near Opiki, 18km south-west of Palmerston North.

Senior Sergeant Pete Thurston, of Palmerston North, said: "There were bins of offal and cow hides on the truck, so it's a hell of a mess."


Mr Thurston said the driver received a blow to the head, but did not appear to be seriously injured.
