A New Zealand woman's OE with her fiance has turned to tragedy after she was killed in a car crash in Belgium.
Catherine Mary Lamplugh, aged 29, of Wanganui, died when the Range Rover she was travelling in crashed into a ditch about 2 am on
Sunday (2pm NZ time) near the small town of Gistel.
Her fiance, Bret Field, aged 29, also of Wanganui, was a passenger in the car and suffered serious injuries. He is being treated at a hospital in Oostende.
Ms Lamplugh, a legal secretary, died at the scene of the crash.
Belgium police said the pair were on a sightseeing trip with two others when their car started to slide on a slippery road and then crashed.
Police are still investigating the accident.
The couple have been living together in London after leaving Wanganui almost two years ago to travel.
They were expected back in New Zealand next month where family were expecting them to announce wedding plans.
