NZ Post resumes US parcel service for businesses amid tariff changes

NZ Post has set up a new option that allows businesses to resume sending parcels to the United States after mail delivery was suspended amid tariff changes.

This move comes after the postal service stopped delivering parcels last week, only carrying letters and documents because of levies imposed by the Trump administration.

NZ Post general manager of export and international solutions Jared Handcock said the service was limited to businesses or commercial operators right now.

“We know how important it is for businesses to stay connected with their US customers, and we’ve worked quickly to bring on this new option, following the temporary suspension to parcel sending into the US announced last week.”

The option was only available for new and existing businesses with a postal account.

While personal letters and documents were still able to be sent to the US, the option to send parcels remained unavailable.

NZ Post said it was developing solutions for sending personal gifts to the US, which was an exception under the tariff structure.

Gifts valued at $170 or less and sent from one individual to another could enter the United States without any taxes or duties applied.

“We’re doing everything we can to make sending gifts and other items through our retail stores possible again soon,” said Hancock.

“We expect this to be in the next week or so.”
