NZ misses out on hosting world gliding champs

NZ has narrowly missed out to Germany on securing the 2008 world gliding championships for Omarama.

Delegates to the annual meeting of the International Gliding Commission in Lausanne earlier voted out Australia's bid and Italy withdrew at the last minute.

The cost of transporting more than 130 aircraft by sea to NZ is understood to have been a factor.
