A quiz night in Greytown and a down-home Christmas dinner in Kahutara will help put wind beneath the wings of a Kuranui College student heading to Canada for a study exchange early next year.
Poppy Millar, 17, was in Masterton yesterday drumming up four-person teams and spot prize sponsors forthe quiz night, which Quizmaster Chris Cogdale will lead at the South Wairarapa Workingmen's Club in Greytown from 7pm on Friday November 27.
Ms Millar said several teams had already signed up and she was keen to get as many more players as possible to make the event more challenging.
The Year 13 student was yet to learn where she will be heading in Canada next year for the three-month exchange. She had earlier chosen Vancouver as a preference for what will be her first "real" international journey, she said, after a long-forgotten trip across the ditch to Australia when she was a child.
She leaves for Canada in January and had launched her fundraising drive for the trip with a masquerade ball at the Kahutara Community Hall in June. The hall will again be the venue for a Farmers' (and others) Christmas Dinner she will hold next month as another major plank in her travel funds campaign.
"I am really hoping to make the quiz night as exciting as I can and the dinner will be for more than just farmers and their families - there will most probably be a buffet and everybody will be welcome."
Details for the dinner fundraiser were to be confirmed very soon, she said, and the quiz night will feature a range of spot prizes and a bottle auction as well.
