Northland woman killed in head-on smash

A 53-year-old Northland woman was killed in a crash in Northland on Friday afternoon.

Millie Irene Huia Dickey, 53, of Tamaterau was a passenger in one of two vehicles that collided head-on on State Highway 1 at Hikurangi, north of Whangarei, in an area known as Piano Hill.

The accident happened at 4.10pm on Friday.

Both drivers had to be cut from the wreckage and were taken to Whangarei Hospital suffering serious injuries.

Two other cars collided trying to avoid the initial crash.
