A man killed when his car plummeted off a bridge and into a river northwest of Whangarei last week has been named by police.
Opononi man Daniel Arthur Naera, 57, died in the crash at Waimamaku last Thursday.
Senior Sergeant Chris Money said police were called to the scene about
8.45pm and found a car submerged in the Waimamaku River.
Firefighters retrieved the car, which was upside down in the river, about 11pm.
They were helped by a farmer with a tractor.
