Nominees trickling in with just 3 days left to go

With three days left till nominations for the local body elections close, nominees are trickling in.

Nominations have been slow for South Wairarapa District Council and community board roles.

So far, no one has stepped up to oppose the current mayor Adrienne Staples, who has put her name forward.

Councillors Solitaire Robertson, Margaret Craig, Viv Napier, Dean Davies, Brian Jephson and Julie Riddell are running for their wards again.

Roles on the Featherston community board have attracted more nominees than available positions.

Helen Barrow, Lee Carter, Katie Beattie, Peter Jackson, Garry Thomas and Rupert Watson are in the running for four positions on the board.

Martinborough and Greytown community boards haven't attracted too many nominees; only Christine Stevenson has stepped up for a position on the Greytown board.

The council had set aside $40,000 for running the 2013 elections, together with reserve funds set aside in previous years.
