The New Zealand branch of Nissan is recalling 1592 vehicles as part of a worldwide service recall of more than two million vehicles.
Nissan last week issued the international recall of 2.14 million vehicles, the third-largest recall ever, for an ignition problem that could cause the engine to stall and
fail to start.
The vehicles affected in New Zealand included Tiida, Micra and Navara models produced between 2004 and 2006, Nissan New Zealand managing director John Manley told NZPA.
"Anybody that owns one of those vehicles will get a letter from Nissan within the next couple of weeks ... and they will be invited to bring their vehicle into a Nissan dealership and the part will be replaced free of charge."
Mr Manley said the company was working with transport authorities to track down affected imported vehicles, and those owners would also be able to have the part replaced.
The recall followed three others last week, with Toyota, Honda and BMW all having issued recalls.
The Toyota and Honda recalls were due to brake fluid leaks that could lead to weaker braking power.
Toyota recalled more than 1.6 million vehicles internationally, including 1872 in New Zealand, while Honda recalled more than 470,000, including 114 in New Zealand.
Six BMW sports utility vehicles with a possible fuel pump problem were among the 130,000 vehicles recalled internationally.
