Eleven more Nissan models are to be recalled in New Zealand because of an engine defect, the motor company announced today.
Nissan NZ said on Monday about 3800 of its vehicles were affected by a global recall of 2.5 million cars which could have faulty crank position sensors.
Details released by Nissanof New Zealand new models and the number of vehicles affected were: P12 Primera (412), Y11 Pulsar (489), T30 X-Trail (388), and N16 Pulsar (2505).
The fault can cause stalling or starting problems.
In addition to those models already identified, the company today added another 11 models.
Customer services manager Mike Perez said some of those models had been imported privately so the exact number of affected vehicles was unknown.
Latest information indicated affected vehicles were manufactured between 1998 and 2003 and the failure rate was estimated to be about 4 percent.
Symptoms of a problem include the "check engine" light illuminating, engine failing to start or stalling.
There had been no reported accidents or injuries worldwide as a result of failure.
The company has been criticised by New Zealand's Consumer's Institute and the Automobile Association for refusing to meet the costs of repairing privately imported vehicles.
