Night club bouncer on murder charge

A 25-year-old bouncer is facing a murder charge following the death of a man outside a Napier club.

The 30-year-old local man died shortly before 3am today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Bill Gregory said the victim was trying to get into a bar in Hastings Street when a fight broke out.

It is understood the victim had been refused entry to the club.

He said the victim received blows to the head and ambulance staff pronounced him dead when they arrived at the scene.

Detective Senior Sergeant Gregory said the inquiry is ongoing and a post mortem examination will be carried out as soon as possible.

The bouncer will appear in the Napier District Court tomorrow.
