KEY POINTS:

The jury in the High Court of Rotorua today returned the following verdicts in relation to the death of three-year-old Nia Glassie:

COUNT ONE
Wiremu (19) and Michael Curtis (22) between 20/7/07 and 3/8/07 murdered Nia Glassie.
Charge: Murder
Verdict: GUILTY

COUNT TWO
Oriwa Kemp (18) and Micheal Pearson (20) between 21/5/07
and 3/8/07 were a party to unlawful acts from the above two, thereby committed manslaughter.
Charge: Manslaughter
Verdict: NOT GUILTY

COUNT THREE
Lisa Kuka (35) between 20/7/07 and 3/8/07 failed without lawful excuse to provide necessaries namely medical treatment - thereby caused her death.
Charge: Manslaughter
Verdict: GUILTY

COUNT FOUR
Lisa Kuka (35) between 21/5/07 and 3/8/07 being the parent failed to protect her from violence and thereby caused her death.
Charge: Manslaughter
Verdict: GUILTY

COUNT FIVE
Wiremu and Michael Curtis and Oriwa Kemp on or about 18/7/07 willfully ill-treated her in a manner likely to have caused her unnecessary suffering; spun her on a clothesline until she fell off.
Charge: Willful ill-treatment.
Verdict: GUILTY

COUNT SIX
Wiremu and Michael Curtis and Michael Pearson on or about 19/7/07 willfully ill-treated her in a manner likely to have caused her unnecessary suffering; placed her in a drier and turned it on.
Charge: Willful ill-treatment
Verdict: GUILTY

COUNT SEVEN
Wiremu and Michael Curtis and Michael Pearson and Oriwa Kemp between 21/5/07 and 23/7/07 willfully ill-treated her in a manner likely to have caused her unnecessary suffering.
Charge: Willful ill-treatment
Verdict: Wiremu Curtis GUILTY
Michael Curtis GUILTY
Michael Pearson NOT GUILTY
Oriwa Kemp GUILTY
