Ngaruawahia fire victim named

The man who died in a suspicious fire at Ngaruawahia has been named as Allan Davies.

Waikato police spokesman Andrew McAlley said a post-mortem has revealed the 57-year-old road worker suffered a serious injury in an assault before the fire.

Mr Davies' body was found by fire-fighters who were called to put out a blaze at his Struve St home about 6.30am on Friday.

The fire is regarded as suspicious and is the subject of a separate investigation by Police and the Fire Service, Mr McAlley said.
