Next census available online

Next year's census forms can be filled in either online or in the standard paper version.

The questionnaires for the 2006 Census of Population and Dwellings were launched today. The census will be held on Tuesday, March 7 2006.

Information collected from the census contributes to planning decisions for roads, schools, public transport, playgrounds, emergency services, health facilities, libraries, pools, and other amenities and services.

Census general manager Nancy McBeth said: "For the first time, you can either complete your census forms online or using a paper form," she said.

Forms may also be completed in English or Maori.

Most of the topics in the 2006 Census were included in 2001.
