Dud kerosene kills 11 in Nigeria

At least 11 people have died in explosions caused by adulterated kerosene in Nigeria's commercial capital, Lagos.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation halted kerosene sales to prevent further explosions.

"Eleven of 41 victims brought to this hospital within a week have died of various degrees of burns," a hospital spokesman said.

The victims were trying to light lamps or cooking stoves. Kerosene is a major cooking fuel for low- and medium-income families in Nigeria.
