Racing: Hopes ride on Starbo

Champion apprentice Michael Walker is hoping Wanganui provides the location tomorrow to set a new record for the number of wins in a season.

The 17-year-old Taranaki jockey is pinning his hopes on Starbo to break Lance O'Sullivan's 1996/97 record of 162 winners in a single season.

Last year Walker chalked up his 100th winner at Wanganui.

Wanganui trainer Allan James confirmed Walker had been quick off the mark ringing for the ride on the Starjo three-year-old.

In-form Starbo has run second and third at his two latest races this campaign - the third just last week in the Awapuni mud at the Marton meeting.

Walker's first ride of the day is on his boss, Allan Sharrock's two-year-old debutant, Sugar Time.
