Aaron Sorkin, the award-winning creator of The West Wing, has been arrested for drug possession.
The US TV Guide reports that the 40-year-old executive producer of the White House drama series was preparing to fly from Burbank, California, to Las Vegas this week when police allegedly found hallucinogenic mushrooms in his
carry-on luggage.
An airport spokesman said Sorkin was detained for three hours and then released on $US10,000 bail. He is awaiting a hearing on April 30.
Since The West Wing first aired in 1999, Sorkin has become one of television's hottest writer-creators. Last year the drama gathered nine Emmy awards, including Best Drama. It is to receive another award on April 26 - ironically, from the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence to honour the show's accuracy and sensitivity in depicting alcoholism.
