A baby survived after falling out of a moving 4WD vehicle in Invercargill, police said yesterday.
Sergeant Keiran O'Regan said a witness reported seeing the left rear door of the vehicle open as it turned a corner.
The baby, about 18 months old, fell on to the road.
"The Nissan stopped, a woman got out, picked up the baby and took off," said Mr O'Regan.
Police found out that the baby was taken to Southland Hospital for treatment for head injuries, but for privacy reasons could not find out any further details.
