Former minister of defence and police, Allan McCready, has died, aged 86.
Mr McCready died on August 8.
In 1960 Mr McCready was elected to Parliament as the MP for Otaki, succeeding his father-in-law, J J Maher.
Mr McCready retained the seat until he contested and won the Manawatu seat in 1972, which he held until he retired from Parliament in 1978.
During his time in Parliament Mr McCready was minister of many departments, most notably, minister of defence in 1972 and again from 1975 to 1978 and minister of police between 1975 and 1978.
He was also minister of marine and fisheries and minister in charge of the Government Printing Office from 1969 to 1972, and minister in charge of war pensions and minister in charge of rehabilitation from 1975 to 1978.
He is survided by his wife Grace, son Brian and daughter Colleen.
A service for Mr McCready will be held at St Luke's Anglican Church in Waikanae on Thursday at 1.30pm.
