An Auckland man bent on revenge after a fight broke into a motel room looking for firearms, the Greymouth District Court was told yesterday.
Damian Scott Selby, 20, now living in Hokitika, had admitted charges of aggravated robbery, burglary, unlawfully interfering with a motor vehicle and driving with excess breath alcohol, relating to a series of incidents early on February 6.
Selby, whom Judge Brian Callaghan remanded on bail for sentencing on March 25, was drinking with associates at orchard accommodation in Roxburgh when a disagreement led to a scuffle, the court heard.
Selby later broke into the room of an acquaintance, who awoke to find him trying to remove a shotgun, 7.62 semi-automatic rifle, and .308, .223 and .22 Hornet rifles.
He said he wanted a gun to shoot a man at the orchard but when the complainant would not allow him to take a gun he left with a wheel brace.
Selby returned to the orchard where he caused $578 damage to a car before stealing a quad bike. He said he was "pretty drunk".
