An Australian expert in counter-terrorism has told the royal commission investigating the Christchurch mosque shootings that New Zealand could be a model in combating violent extremism.

Dr Anne Aly, a former professor who is now the Labor Party member for the Cowan seat in Perth, was in New Zealand this week for talks with government agencies in the wake of the terror attacks.
