Fire and Emergency have contained a fire at a house in West Auckland after a blaze broke out this afternoon.

Two fire trucks carrying eight crew members attended the Rimu St fire in New Lynn at 1.30pm.

The fire was small and not well involved but crew were being careful because asbestos was present, Fire and Emergency northern shift communications manager Carren Larking said.

Crew were still on scene at 3pm.

She didn't think anybody was at home at the time and nobody was unaccounted for.

The fire wasn't suspicious, she said.
