Three people threatened a dairy worker in Lower Hutt before running off with the till money on New Year's Eve.
One man jumped the counter and removed the till drawers while another continued to threaten the attendant at the Epuni Mini Market in Oxford Tce about 6pm on December 31.
Two of the men were wearing rubber face masks and the other had his face partially covered by clothing.
Witnesses told police they saw four men running from the store - police believe the fourth was a look out and waited outside while the robbery took place.
The four offenders were seen running under the rail subway onto Cambridge Tce and got into an awaiting white four-door saloon police think may have been driven by a fifth person.
They were last seen travelling north on Cambridge Tce. .
The victims of the robbery are extremely traumatised and are eager for the men responsible to be apprehended, police said.

Meanwhile, police are hunting a man who allegedly threatened a shopkeeper and robbed a South Island dairy on December 29.
Police say the man went into On the Spot dairy on Maxwell Rd, Blenheim about 7am, threatened the shopkeeper, took the till and ran away.
