Armed robbers ripped out a cigarette cabinet of a Hamilton dairy early today, before taking off in a stolen car.

Waikato police Senior Sergeant Ray Malcomson said police are now seeking sightings of the stolen yellow Mazda Atenza, registration FFK577, used in the heist.

Malcolmson said two men stormed into the store, on the corner of East St and Peachgrove Rd, at 6.54am. One was armed with a knife.

"Two men, one presented a knife and they've taken off with the whole cigarette cabinet.

"They left in a stolen yellow Atenza."

The shop owner was not injured in the incident but was in shock.

The two offenders both had their faces covered by scarves and were wearing hoodies.

Hamilton CIB staff were now at the scene, he said.
