One person is in critical condition after a car and motorbike collided in west Auckland.

Police are at the scene of the crash in New Lynn, which happened at 5.30pm.

The road is closed at the intersection of Great North Rd and Portage Rd.

Diversions are in place and motorists are being asked to avoid the area.

The Serious Crash Unit are investigating.
