The weather might have been on the dull side but thousands of holidaymakers still made the most of long weekend events in the City of Sails yesterday.
Scores of Kiwis dressed up as their favourite characters from sci-fi and fantasy TV shows and movies - including Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy - descended on the ASB Showgrounds for the Armageddon festival.
VIP guests at the event this year include John Barrowman (star of Torchwood, Doctor Who and Arrow), Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Serenity and Castle) and Tom Felton (from the Harry Potter films).
Fans are not only shelling out big money to dress up in sci-fi gear for the event.
They are also paying a small fortune for autographs - $70 - and $80 for images with the visiting stars. The event continues until Monday.
On the other side of Auckland, thousands of Lego fans rolled up to the first day of the three-day 2017 Auckland Brick Show.
The event included a huge city display featuring trains, monorails and subways and classic Star Wars and western creations.
Australian professional Lego builder Ryan McNaught (AKA The Brickman) also created a giant Auckland Sky Tower model and a replica of Eden Park for the occasion.
