A wonky pair of road markings confusing drivers in east Auckland aren't a mistake, authorities say.
A disjointed median line in St Johns will stay that way for another couple of weeks until the recently re-sealed road is ready.
Two pedestrian refuges were removed while St Johns Rd was re-sealed near the intersection with College Rd.
The road had been re-marked but the refuges couldn't be glued back until the oil came to the surface of the road - about two weeks away, Auckland Transport spokesman Mark Hannan said.
A pedestrian refuge is not a pedestrian crossing, but a space in between two lanes where pedestrians can safely wait until it's safe to cross.
The area was usually marked out by two low concrete islands, Hannan said.
"We apologise to motorists for any confusion."
The gap between the lines caused one Herald reader to email in to Sideswipe in confusion, which ran the photo with the caption "er, the lines don't quite meet"
