A man has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged stabbing in Thames yesterday.

For a short time last night police were hunting 36-year-old Arana Barlow, after a woman suffered critical injuries following a stabbing on Ngati Maru highway about 4pm.

A 2-year-old boy was missing from the home and police began a hunt for Barlow, 36.

Police said at the time they had extreme concerns for the child.

He was caught in Kelston, a suburb in west Auckland, shortly after 9pm.

On Saturday morning police said a 36-year-old man had been charged with attempted murder and he would appear in Hamilton District Court today.

Police said the alleged victim was in a serious but stable condition and would undergo surgery.

The child involved had been returned to family care.
