The police dive squad has been called in to help in the search for two boaties missing since Thursday.

Authorities are today continuing a search for the men who were on board the commercial fishing boat Wendy J when it ran aground near Smoothwater Bay, on the West Coast, four day ago.

The Wendy J is based in Greymouth.

A statement put out by police about 2pm said today's search effort was being conducted by helicopter, but that the police national dive squad had been called in.


"The Police National Dive Squad are en route to assist with the search and are expected to arrive in Haast tonight."

A light aircraft in the area of Jackson Bay raised the alarm late on Saturday morning after spotting a life raft and debris on the shore.

A survivor, Mark Thomas, was later found safe and well.
