Guns and a significant amount of ammunition has been seized by police who are investigating the shooting of two dogs in the Wairarapa.
The firearms will be forensically tested to see if they are linked to the dog killings, which happened following a street fight in Masterton.
Police said at the time that following the fight someone had returned to shoot the two dogs, horrifying residents.
On Friday police said a 28-year-old man had been charged with firearms and drug offences after a search at a property lead to police recovering three shotguns, a high-powered hunting rifle, and a "significant" amount of ammunition.
The search warrant was executed at the Wairarapa property on Friday morning, as part of an investigation into the dog shootings.
Detective Sergeant Mike Smith said any incident involving firearms posed an "obvious and significant risk to the community" and would be taken seriously.
"This morning we were able to remove a number of firearms from the hands of those who put the community at risk by having them in their possession," he said.
The man is due to appear in the Masterton District Court on September 14.
