Long-serving National MP Doug Kidd will retire at the next election, he announced today.

Mr Kidd entered Parliament in 1978 when he won the Marlborough seat, which he held for 21 years. He stood as a list candidate in the last election.

He served as a minister for six years, with involvement in nine portfolios, and was speaker for three years.

Mr Kidd is currently in Marrakesh, Morocco, leading the New Zealand Parliament delegation at the Inter-Parliamentary Union annual conference.
