Midnight rain combined with a cool morning to shroud Tauranga in mist this morning.
The first few daylight hours were fairly foggy across the district, producing some watercolour scenes like the above for early risers to enjoy.
Metservice meteorologist Tom Adams said the mist was a "post-frontal fog" that happened when humidity reached 100 per cent saturation.
Rain showers between 7pm and midnight last night left water on the ground, which cooled and lifted the humidity level.
Adams said the fog would not last long in the city, where it would be broken up by winds, but might sit around for a bit in the hills particularly north of the city towards Katikati.
